Jasna Žmak: The artist is institutionalised

workshop EN friendly Based on a True Story Sold out
Becoming an artist means becoming part of the art world – a world with its own rules, agenda and language. A language that we are expected to master in order to succeed and continue creating art. Although the heyday of institutional critique may be behind us, many of its questions remain unanswered.

In this workshop, we will therefore ask ourselves how are our lives shaped by the institutions we are part of. We will approach the artist not only as a creator of artworks, but also as a living archive - a person whose memories, experiences, ambitions, contradictions, and positions within the cultural field carry both personal and social meaning and can become sources of dramaturgical reflection. Together we will explore how personal histories, relationships, influences, and encounters can become artistic material.

Working on the intersection of documentary theater and autofiction, we will investigate how are the narratives through which we understand ourselves as artists created, not in an attempt to reach a final truth, but as a way of questioning, re-framing, and re-imagining the stories we tell about ourselves.
